TRAINING
Our Program
Our approach to training focuses on the future labour needs of construction industry and removes non essential building tasks that are not frequently performed on today’s modern housing developments.
Stage One: At present all of the learners have been referred by Job Centre plus, prospective learners are invited to attend an information session to be told about the training with employment opportunity that we support, attendees that are wanting to develop a career in the construction industry will be invited to sit the initial assessment for functional skills maths & English and in some cases a small practical brickwork task.
Stage Two: The first training period is full time for 9 weeks at 30 hours per week, where learners are trained and then assessed in our own training centre, where they will specialise in competently laying block work, facing bricks and cavity walls. A portfolio of learner practical achievements & job knowledge is collated and assessed against industry recognised qualification standards, on successfully achieving the standards we are then confident that the learners have the required level of skill and competence to apply their chosen trade on a construction site, with minimal super
vision.
Stage Three: Work experience for 4 weeks, working on a live building project either with Homes 4 Yorkshire or with one of our construction partners. At the end of the work experience period all learners are reviewed and int
erviewed for progression onto employment with Homes 4 Yorkshire for a probationary employment position.
Stage Four: Probationary period will be for 13 weeks based on a 40 hour week, where employees will be paid minimum wage for their age. Employees will be reviewed each four weeks to monitor their skills development, team work, enthusiasm; work ethic etc. If needed action can be agreed for personal development and reviewed again in four weeks time.
Stage Five: At week 26, and again after receiving positive feedback from their supervisors and showing acceptable skills and knowledge development, successful candidates will be interviewed for full time employment with Homes 4 Yorkshire and also enrolled onto an appropriate industry recognised NVQ 2 qualification that will be delivered in house or with one of our preferred training providers.
